That’s what IS wrong…People are TRYING to make this a religion based country.
Christians are portrayed all over the mainstream media and in Hollywood as ignorant, hateful, uneducated morons. However, once you actually meet real Christians are get out of that close-minded idea that atheists DESPERATELY want people to believe, you get this. This, which is much more common than the opposite I described above. This is William Lane Craig and he’s one of my new favorite apologists! Add him to the list of people to search for on youtube!
I fail to see where Christians are demonized nearly to the degree that you express. Fundamentalists certainly get plenty of criticism in some circles, but given that 77% of the US is considered Christian and that the last 44 out of 44 U.S. Presidents have been Christian I have a hard time imagining that their horrible oppression is having that serious an effect.
And as to Craig, you realize, of course, that this is guy who justifies the slaughter of the Canaanites? The same guy who argues that in the slaughter of the Canaanite children, “was actually their salvation”? (Source)
This is an argument that uses belief in God’s infinite justice as an excuse to justify, well, anything. For truly if you can use belief in a god to justify the extermination of an entire people and their children, then what are the limits? What use is morality?
I guess you are free to believe as you wish, but if you come to me and tell me that God has ordered you to slaughter my city, don’t be surprised if I take some offence to that.
